Let’s Encrypt: 6-day and IP address certificates are generally available

On Jan 15, 2026, Let’s Encrypt announced that both 6-day certificates and IP address certificates are now generally available. They say that short-lived certificates improve security by reducing reliance on unreliable revocation mechanisms.
For normal DNS name certificates, the shorter lifetime is opt-in and Let’s Encrypt has no plans on making it the default. The IP address certificates, however, do require the shorter lifetime.
